A Study on Reasons for Taking Artificial Feeding

Abstract
For the security of breast feeding in nursing infants, especially newborn, a study on the reasons for taking artificial feeding was carried out on the present availability of 247 housewives, who had their artificial-fed infants, by question sheet. The results were obtained as follows.
1) The vast majority of reasons for artificial feeding are on the part of mother¢¥s; they include inadequate supply of breast milk (the most), mother¢¥s health problems job, etc. Consideration seems to be given to the mother¢¥s easy or passive attitude toward breast feeding to maintain the supply of the breast milk at an adequate level. Most of the housewives turn to formula feeding, not by physician¢¥s or nurse¢¥s advice, but for themselves.
2) The highest frequency for artificial feeding is observed between age 1 to 6. months (35. 1 %) and the frequency of age 2 to 7 days amounts to 23. 1 % of all, cases. 63. 2% of all artificial-fed infants are delivered with easy at hospital or clinic.
On the basis of these results, the more effective role of the nurse as a health educator for the security of breast feeding seems to be required.
